Ben Hur, actor Charlton Heston’s caftan from the 1959 epic historical drama film directed by William Wyler and based on the 1880 novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ" by Lew Wallace. Epic drama about an aristocratic Jew living in Judaea who incurs the wrath of a childhood friend, now a Roman tribune. Although forced into slavery on a galley and compelled to witness the cruel persecution of his family, he survives, harbouring dreams of vengeance. A battle at sea and a chariot race are among the memorable sequences. This beige caftan features light and dark brown vertical stripes on the front and back of the costume with a slight intentional opening near the top of the chest. Additionally, the original Western Costume tags are still attached, and “Charlton Heston” is stitched onto the label. In addition, this lot includes a Ben Hur book signed by Heston and a behind-the-scenes photo of Heston riding a moped. This lot remains in overall great condition and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Studio Auctions.
