Really nice stick here from the 1976 Canada Cup, used by Gerry Cheevers. The team was sponsored by CCM so they used their sticks in practise but not during games unless they had used CCM in the past. Cheevers was well known for using Northland sticks all throughout his career making this a rare commodity for collectors. The CCM stick up for auction, has G Cheevers on the shaft with the exact tape job you see in the photo of Cheesie during a practise at the Montreal Forum. CCM in bold lettering with custom pro on the upper shaft.  Properly taped butt end, upper paddle strip and full blade covered. There is a small crack on the blade under the white tape but still very solid and does not detract when displayed.  Rogie Vachon played all seven games for Team Canada so Cheevers had the best seat in town but didn't see any game time. This one was used in practise and inter-squad games so that's where the use comes in. Very rare stick from one of the most famous goalies to play in the NHL. Cheevers's hockey career began in 1956 at the age of 16 when he played for the St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey Association. The right to sign him to an NHL contract was held by the  (with whom he played two games) until the  drafted him in 1965, despite Toronto general manager  trying to slip Cheevers through unselected by listing him as a forward. In the  season he won 48 games in leading the Rochester Americans to their first  championship, becoming the final goaltender in league history to play every game (coincidentally, he did this one season after his future Bruins teammate  was the final goaltender to do so in the NHL). Cheevers still holds the AHL record for most victories in a season by a goaltender. Cheevers had a career NHL  of 2.89, recorded 230 NHL wins, played in 419 NHL games, and registered 26 NHL shutouts. He is second in the WHA's history in career GAA and shutouts, even though he played during only half the league's existence. If one combines both their NHL and WHA statistics, Gerry Cheevers (329),  (325), and  (304) all would have at least 300 wins. Cheevers was inducted into the  in 1985, and is one of the few goaltenders in the Hall to have never been named to the All-Star Team or won the Vezina Trophy.
